(KNSI) – Bob Johnson is the projected winner of the special election for Stearns County Commissioner in District 4.
In unofficial results, Johnson captured 63.9% of the vote or 2,208 ballots. That edged out Amin Ali, who took home 28.6% or 989 ballots. There were also 254 write-in votes.
Johnson, 76 years old, is retired, but previously served as an administrative director at the Michigan Heart Institute, executive director of the CentraCare Heart and Vascular Center, the dialysis program, and the CentraCare Wound Center. His last role was as executive director of the Paramount Center for the Arts.
He’s also served three terms in the St. Cloud City Council and is currently on the Stearns County Housing Trust Board.
Johnson replaces Leigh Lenzmeier, who retired in April for health reasons, triggering the special election. Lenzmeier had represented the district, which includes the southern half of St. Cloud and Waite Park, in the county for 34 years.
