(KNSI) — Despite a quick response, the St. Cloud Fire Department was unable to save a home on the south side of the city Friday morning.

Crews got the call just before noon for a garage fire in the 900 block of 10th Avenue South. By the time firefighters arrived, the garage was fully engulfed, and heavy smoke and flames had spread into the main part of the house.

They entered the home through a second-story window using a ladder to ensure it was empty. Crews quickly brought the fire under control, but not before the home was deemed a total loss.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
