(KNSI) – A Glendorado man was sentenced to more than 76 years in prison on Friday for a 2023 shooting that injured five members of the Sherburne County Drug Task Force.

Karl Thomas Holmberg was convicted in August on all 15 counts against him, including seven counts of attempted murder of a police officer. Benton County District Court Judge Robert Raupp handed down the sentence.

The incident occurred in October 2023 when members of the Sherburne County Drug Task Force went to Holmberg’s Glendorado Township home to execute a search warrant for drugs. After knocking and announcing they had a warrant, officers entered the home, where Holmberg immediately opened fire.

Five officers were struck by gunfire. Two were hit in their bulletproof vests, another was shot in the hand, one was hit in the right arm, and another sustained gunshot wounds to the chest and hip. One officer required hospitalization for his injuries, while others were spared more serious harm thanks to their body armor.

The officers retreated from the home and called in negotiators, who worked for hours before successfully convincing Holmberg to surrender peacefully.

In addition to the attempted murder convictions, Holmberg was also found guilty of assault and drug charges. His wife, Doreen, was separately charged in connection with the incident and pleaded guilty to selling drugs from their home.
