(KNSI) – Leaves on the trees in Sherburne and Wright Counties have outlasted the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources staff.
The agency announced Thursday that it had released its final Fall Color Finder report of the year, even with the area southeast of St. Cloud still stuck at 50-75% of peak. Outside of Lake Maria, the only other state park still waiting for peak is around Forestville and Mystery Cave State Parks in Fillmore County near the Iowa State Line.
Elsewhere in central Minnesota, western Stearns County, most of Benton and Mille Lacs Counties, and all of Morrison County are now considered past peak. For a season that looked like it would wrap up ahead of the typical schedule early on, a stretch of extremely warm fall temperatures flipped that on its head. Most of Minnesota has arrived at peak significantly later than expected.
St. Cloud is roughly two weeks past normal.
