(KNSI) — Minnesota is one of the best states in the country for jobs.

Personal finance website WalletHub put together a study called “The Best and Worst States for Jobs” that analyzed all 50 states to determine which are best for people looking for work.

They checked out 34 different factors and grouped them into two main categories: Job Market and Economic Environment.

We landed an overall score of 60.94. We came in fourth for Economic Environment and eighth for Job Market. On the economic side, we do very well in terms of pay and support for working parents. Our median household income, adjusted for cost of living, is almost $86,000, which puts us third-highest in the country. People just starting out earn around $3,800 a month on average, ranking us 11th nationally. For parents trying to balance work and family, we rank fifth for both working moms and working dads.

Our job market is solid, too. Unemployment sits at just 3% and for those who are working, there’s good access to benefits through employers. We’re eighth for the number of workers with private health insurance and 12th for access to retirement plans through work. Plus, we have workshare programs that let companies temporarily cut hours instead of laying people off when times get tough, helping keep people employed during rough patches.

Only Massachusetts and Connecticut ranked higher, and we ranked highest among Midwestern states. South Dakota was sixth, North Dakota was eighth, Wisconsin was 15th, and Iowa ranked 24th.
