(KNSI) – If you’re tired of tucking the same old tinsel into the Christmas tree, it’s time to spruce things up and trade those decorations for something new to you.

Stearns County is holding a free ‘Swap. Don’t Shop!’ drop off event on Friday, November 7th, at the Environmental Services Department, located on the second floor of the Service Center in Waite Park, between 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Organizers say the idea is to take unwanted decorations and give them a second life instead of chucking them in the landfill.

All elves are limited to bringing five indoor or outdoor winter or holiday decor items. If you’re a smart cookie, then you’ll understand decorations must be new or gently used. They must also be in working order, free of stains or odors, and have all their parts. Organizers have the right to reject items.

The actual swapping of Santas, Grinches, snow globes, and wreaths of holly will be on Monday, November 10th, at the Great River Regional Library, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Whether you’re pining for a fresh wreath or ready to make your old mistletoe history, come deck the halls with someone else’s baubles.

People can also bring their five golden rings to the event on the 10th, after all, ’tis the season to be jolly good at recycling.
