(KNSI) – The Great River Regional Library Board of Trustees has unanimously approved a proposal from the City of Cold Spring to move the local branch to a temporary location at 402 Red River Avenue North.
Cold Spring City Council Member Mike Fall is on the Library Committee and was active in scouting the new site. He thinks it is an upgrade overall. “It’s more square footage than we have now. It’s actually a better library situation than we have now. So again, this is a stepping stone.”
The library is currently inside city hall, which will be seeing large-scale renovations beginning next year. Fall says it is impossible to have a branch within an active construction zone. There are some building modifications that have to take place before the move could happen. The new location would house the branch for no more than three years.
Even though Fall classifies the temporary location as an upgrade, he promises it will not be the branch’s final destination. A group is actively fundraising to secure a permanent site. Still, Fall thinks the stopgap works as Cold Spring looks to turn a new page for the branch.
He says, “It’s not ideal to what we want to build, but it’s going to be very satisfactory in the meantime.”
