(KNSI) – A pair of Stearns County communities were included in the latest grant round from the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development.
The agency allotted $20.7 million through its Small City Development Program to projects in 33 cities and counties to rehabilitate properties. Of that amount, Eden Valley received $600,000 for public facility improvements to upgrade its water distribution lines. St. Joseph is being helped in fixing up 10 owner-occupied homes to the tune of $287,500.
The SCDP can be used on residential property projects, commercial retail buildings, or public facility improvements. DEED Commissioner Matt Varilek says, “Funding through DEED’s Small Cities Development Program enables cities to undertake projects that promote economic vitality and quality of life in their communities.”
He adds, “These grants ensure all Minnesotans feel the benefits of economic development and have a safe, healthy community and home, regardless of where they live.”
Over 90% of grant recipients serve families with low or moderate incomes.
