(KNSI) — A quick-thinking farmer prevented a baler fire from spreading to nearby crops in Spring Hill Township on Friday afternoon.

According to the Stearns County Sheriff’s Department, just before 3:00, 58-year-old Randy Bertram of Paynesville was baling corn stalks when he noticed his New Holland baler starting to smoke. Rather than panic, Bertram quickly moved the burning equipment to a safer location and plowed the ground around it, preventing the flames from burning his crops.

By the time Stearns County deputies arrived at the scene, Bertram had already contained the fire. The Lake Henry Fire Department responded and extinguished what remained.

No one was hurt.
