(KNSI) – Registration for Stearns County Ski Patrol starts on Wednesday.

Volunteers are needed at four Stearns County Parks where Nordic skiing is featured from December to February. They are expected to be out on the trails at Quarry Park, Warner Lake County Park, Mississippi River County Park, or Kraemer Lake-Wildwood County Park for two hours at a time, helping other skiers and hikers when necessary.

Once someone has signed up for a park and a date, they should arrive on time and begin recording data needed for a Ski Patrol Report. The number of vehicles in the parking lot should be noted when a volunteer arrives and as they go. Tally the number of skiers, hikers, snowshoers, and dogs seen, along with the temperature, wind speed and snow depth.

Photos and comments on the trail conditions are also appreciated. When a volunteer has submitted two accepted reports, they are eligible for an annual parking pass to Quarry Park and Nature Preserve in Waite Park.

To register as a volunteer, sign up online through the Stearns County Recreation Catalog.
