(KNSI) — The vacant lot that used to house the Press Bar in downtown St. Cloud will be transformed into a concert venue for St. Cloud State University’s homecoming.
Visit Greater St. Cloud Executive Director Rachel Thompson says alumni in town for Homecoming will have a chance to relive their college days to a soundtrack that’s heavy from the 1990s. On October 25th, local party rock band L.A. Gears will take the stage from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Thompson encourages those attending to make an afternoon of it and listen to the music. “There’s also a huge push to come early, grab some food from restaurants that are in the area. We are allowing people to carry in food, grab some to go or come down early and have a bite to eat and then come for the concert.”
Thompson indicates the timing is very intentional. “It is positioned to end prior to the St. Cloud State homecoming hockey game that starts at 6:00 p.m.
SCSU will skate against Alaska Anchorage that weekend. Money raised from the concert will go into the event fund at the downtown alliance to be recycled for things like Bold and Bright or Festi-Fall.
Also, starting on Wednesday, the 22nd, there is a downtown Homecoming scavenger hunt called Hunt for the Huskies. Participating stores will have a paw print sticker in the window. Inside, somewhere, is a stuffed husky. Ten will be given away each day on that Wednesday through Friday. Winners get hockey tickets, and they can keep the stuffed animals, too. Thompson says organizers and school officials want to restore Homecoming to a premier community event.
