(KNSI) — The Central Minnesota Manufacturers Association is hosting its 14th annual Tour of Manufacturing starting October 1st, giving students, parents and the general public a chance to check out 24 manufacturing facilities across the region.
Companies opening their doors include Malco, Ridgewater College, Engel Metallurgical, West Central Steel, St. Cloud State University and others. The CMMA Manufacturing e-magazine has the complete list of participants here, along with schedules and additional information.
The event aims to get people excited about manufacturing careers and help companies find their next generation of workers. During the tours, visitors can learn about different products and processes, explore various career options, get a feel for workplace cultures, and see how companies are using cutting-edge technology in manufacturing today.
Manufacturing ranks as Minnesota’s second largest industry, making up more than 15% of all jobs. Back in 2023, there were about 12,000 open manufacturing positions, and that number is projected to jump to over 93,000 openings by 2032 when accounting for both new jobs and retirements.
Lynda Bailey, CMMA’s executive director, says the organization is proud to shine a spotlight on the manufacturers, innovators and collaborators who keep the local industry moving forward. She describes the Tour of Manufacturing as a celebration of the state’s manufacturing sector and a chance to recognize the innovative companies, skilled workers and economic benefits that manufacturing brings to the region.
This year’s tour also celebrates Two Rivers Enterprises of Holdingford as the 2024 Manufacturer of the Year. The company makes stainless steel equipment for food processors, restaurants, pharmacies and medical facilities. Officials say Two Rivers earned the recognition for its commitment to building up the manufacturing workforce through partnerships with local youth groups and educational organizations that create real career pathways for students.
The annual Tour of Manufacturing runs through October 4th.
