(KNSI) — The Initiative Foundation gave out $160,000 in Joy & Connection grants to 25 organizations around Central Minnesota. These grants help fund community projects that bring people together and create chances for belonging, healing, and shared purpose.
“These grants are all about creating opportunities for people to gather, share experiences and strengthen the bonds that make our communities thrive,” said Amy Trombley, who’s the Initiative Foundation’s vice president for community. “It’s inspiring to see so many organizations leading efforts that bring joy and connection to their neighbors.”
The grants support various community efforts, from festivals and art workshops to mentoring programs, senior activities, and youth leadership initiatives. According to a press release from the foundation, each project works to build stronger connections and community pride across Central Minnesota, whether that’s helping seniors feel more included, creating safe spaces for young people, or celebrating local culture.
Some of the funded projects include the Benton Economic Development Partnership in Foley, which received funding for Taste of Benton County—a celebration of local food, entertainment, and talent that builds community pride and strengthens social connections.
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Minnesota in St. Cloud received funding for their Mentoring for Belonging program, which creates one-on-one mentoring relationships and inclusive activities to help young people build confidence and feel more connected to their community.
The Fahan Organization in St. Cloud will use its grant for a one-day wellness retreat for Somali girls, focusing on outdoor activities, cultural expression, mental health, and building sisterhood in a safe environment.
Great River Arts in Little Falls received support for a six-month program featuring monthly art workshops and a public exhibit that fosters creativity and social connection, while showcasing local talent.
Whitney Senior Center in St. Cloud will offer art therapy and storytelling workshops with public showcases and newsletters to help seniors connect with each other and express their creativity.
The Youth Chorale of Central Minnesota in St. Cloud received funding for their Voices Together Memory Choir, which brings together people with memory loss, their caregivers, and youth volunteers through rehearsals and performances that create belonging and connection.
