(KNSI) – Residents, community safety advocates, and their pets are invited to attend the monthly Dog Walker Watch meeting next week, focused on Minnesota’s Hands-Free Laws.
The presentation is scheduled for Tuesday, September 23rd, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Wilson Park’s Dog Park area.
The St. Cloud Police Department teamed up with the National Association of Town Watch to bring the program to the city. It harnesses the natural observation power of dogs and their handlers throughout neighborhoods. Organizers say the walkers are uniquely positioned to serve as watchdogs, as they regularly travel the same routes at various times throughout the day and in all weather conditions. This allows them to see things that might be out of place easier than other neighbors.
According to police, the program welcomes both new and experienced dog owners who want to contribute to a safer, more connected community while enjoying quality time with their pets.
