(KNSI) – The Minnesota Department of Revenue is warning folks about some sneaky scammers who are pretending to be from the tax department via text message.

People all over the state have been getting the fake texts on their phones. The messages claim to be from the Department of Revenue and try to get people to “update” their banking information, which is a total scam.

Here’s what to do if you get one of the sketchy texts. Don’t respond, don’t click any links, and delete the whole thing right away.

The real Minnesota Department of Revenue wants everyone to know they’ll never randomly text you asking for your personal or bank details. If a message like that pops up claiming to be from them, it’s definitely an attempt at fraud.

This is just the latest trick from cybercriminals who love pretending to be official organizations to steal personal info. When you get unexpected messages like this, always double-check by calling the real organization directly using their official contact info.
