(KNSI) – Only a third of the way through September, significant fall color is already appearing in parts of Minnesota.
The Fall Color Finder put out by the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources shows the St. Croix Valley has reached 25% of peak. It is farther along than anywhere else, but splotches are appearing elsewhere, including locally.
The DNR estimates most of Morrison County, the northwest quadrant of Benton County and parts of Stearns County are between 10 and 25% turned. The zone stops just north of St. Cloud. The map is based off of observations made by volunteer reporters and park staff at state facilities across Minnesota.
Peak color typically hits St. Cloud in mid-October. Warm weather in the next few weeks could stall things enough to return things to a more normal timeline.
