(KNSI) – Jennifer Wucherer, who runs St. Cloud’s AmeriCorps Seniors RSVP program, has received a national service award from AmeriCorps.
The Innovative Service Award is given to one program director per year and honors leadership in addressing community challenges through volunteer service while supporting national priorities. The award was presented during a virtual ceremony that included more than 500 AmeriCorps Seniors program directors from across the United States.
A press release says during Wucherer’s five-year tenure as director, the RSVP program has experienced substantial growth, with membership increasing by 31% to more than 1,200 volunteers. The program serves adults aged 55 and older across Benton, Sherburne, Stearns, and Wright Counties. According to program data, 90% of participants report that RSVP provides meaningful purpose and connection, while 96 to 99% would recommend the program to others.
The organization’s volunteers work with more than 160 nonprofits, licensed healthcare facilities, and government organizations throughout Central Minnesota. Wucherer’s recognition highlighted her development of intergenerational programming initiatives, including youth resiliency programs, classroom cribbage instruction, and Readers Theater literacy activities that connect older adults with younger community members.
“Jennifer’s leadership and creativity have not only expanded volunteer engagement but also deepened the impact RSVP has on both older adults and the broader community,” said St. Cloud Mayor Jake Anderson.
“I’ve had the privilege of spending my 25-year career with the Greater St. Cloud RSVP,” states Wucherer. “It has truly been my dream job. Over the years, I’ve been blessed to learn from countless generous citizens who remind us that giving our time is one of the greatest gifts we can offer. Their example has taught me that service is not only transformative for those we help, but also one of the most reliable ways to strengthen our own well-being.”
The AmeriCorps Seniors RSVP program, which has operated for 52 years, continues to connect residents aged 55 and older with volunteer opportunities across the four-county region. Information about participation is available by clicking here or by calling 320-255-7295.
