(KNSI) – There is nothing more grueling than looking after a family member suffering from dementia. A local event has been a refuge for caregivers for almost a decade now with the 2025 version set for Sunday in St. Joseph.

Rock 4 ALZ was started by the Vees, inspired by their experience watching legendary musician Bobby struggle with the disease. Tommy talked with KNSI Radio about Sunday’s event. “For those of you out there that have been tasked with caregiving for somebody with some form of dementia, it’s a really hard thing, and it’s just draining. So, we thought it would be really fun to put together an event that could maybe raise some money and some awareness, but also a chance for those people to get together and have a fun day.”

Performances start at 1:00 p.m. with a singer-songwriter session featuring Michael Shynes and Clayton Ryan. Collective Unconscious, Slip Twister and the Killer Vees, of course, are also featured.

A second space will host teens from the local School of Rock program to give them a chance to make their mark in front of a large, live audience. Tommy Vee talks about why it is important to support the next generation. “St. Cloud has a really vibrant music scene for us, older guys. With us in the Armadillos and Collective Unconscious and all that. But it’s also this next generation of kids that’s coming up, it’s really given that generation of people a place to cut their teeth, because it doesn’t exist anymore.”
