(KNSI) – The Central Minnesota Youth Soccer Association invites the entire St. Cloud community to celebrate a championship-level victory at Selke Field later this month.
An open house to honor the historic field’s acquisition by the club is set for September 21st from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. The afternoon includes family activities, games, and a spirited four-on-four tournament. It’s also a chance to experience firsthand why the 1931 landmark, surrounded by its iconic Works Progress Administration granite wall, means so much to Central Minnesota.
The $350,000 needed for the purchase was the result of teamwork, with local donors contributing $100,000 while the Initiative Foundation provided crucial financing to bridge the remaining gap.
For years, CMYSA had been playing an away game, renting Selke Field while dreaming of permanent ownership. The CMYSA can now work on their long-term game plan, including field maintenance improvements, parking upgrades, and restoration of the historic granite wall that has watched over countless games and memories since the field’s opening.
The CMYSA provides recreational and competitive soccer programming for more than 1,100 children a year in the region.
