(KNSI) – After more than two months of mandatory slow speeds, boaters can finally open the throttles on several Stearns County lakes as water levels return to safe ranges.
The sheriff’s office announced on Thursday that no-wake restrictions have been lifted from Lake Koronis, Rice Lake, Big and North Lakes, The Chain of Lakes system from Richmond to Rockville, Two Rivers Lake, Middle Spunk Lake in Avon, and the Clearwater River and surrounding creeks and tributaries.
The news comes after a lack of rain during the back half of August allowed water levels to drop to acceptable levels. No wake restrictions became necessary over the summer, first taking effect in late June and persisting through the peak of boating season.
The restrictions were put in place to protect shoreline properties from erosive wake damage when dangerously high water levels threatened docks, beaches, and low-lying areas.
