(KNSI) –

Minnesota has been generally dry for the first time in months recently, and abnormally dry conditions are once again creeping across the state.

Over the past week, the soil has begun to become parched in the northwoods, from Lake of the Woods through Upper and Lower Red Lake, down to the headwaters area of the Mississippi River. The city of Duluth, along with most of Carlton and Pine Counties, is also dry.

In total, it covers around 13.5% of the state, up from 3.2% a week ago. Minnesota is actually drier this week than it was at the same point in 2024. All data is courtesy of the U.S. Drought Monitor’s weekly readings. Thursday’s widespread showers and thunderstorms won’t show up until next week’s data.

Locally, everything remains good. All of Benton, Sherburne, Meeker, Morrison, Stearns, and Wright Counties have normal soil moisture.
