(KNSI) – The City of Sartell has been awarded a $15,000 energy efficiency and community resiliency grant from the Initiative Foundation to help tackle critical wastewater infrastructure problems.

Sartell was one of seven Central Minnesota organizations to receive grants totaling $97,000 in the Initiative Foundation’s first-ever round of energy efficiency and community resiliency funding. Other recipients included organizations in Cass, Kanabec, Crow Wing, and Todd counties, with projects ranging from home weatherization to solar installations and electric vehicle infrastructure planning.

Sartell has been experiencing flooding in some streets during heavy rainfall and high groundwater conditions. The funding will help Sartell fix inflow and infiltration issues at one of its lift stations, which currently puts significant stress on the city’s sewer system during severe storms.

Work on the lift station is expected to begin in the coming months. City officials also plan to use the grant money to identify problem areas and implement cost-effective solutions to enhance the system’s efficiency and reliability.

By dealing with these issues now, Sartell hopes to prevent costly emergency repairs in the future.
