(KNSI) — The 72nd Princess Kay of the Milky Way was crowned Wednesday night at the Minnesota State Fair Bandshell.
Reigning Princess Kay, McLeod County Dairy Princess Rachel Visser of Hutchinson, handed off the tiara to Wright County Dairy Princess Malorie Thorson of Waverly, who tearfully expressed her gratitude to the throng of onlookers, including representatives from the Midwest Dairy Association. “You have been so supportive in my entire journey and I cannot wait to represent each and every single one of you this year. And I hope I make you all so proud.”
Starting bright and early Thursday morning, Thorson will begin her duties as the goodwill ambassador for Minnesota’s dairy farmers and the industry for the next year. So, is she ready? “I am so ready! I woke up so early with my mom every single morning, so I’m ready for this. I was born ready!”
Stearns County Dairy Princess April Klaphake was one of the three finalists. Benton County Dairy Princess Heidi Montag was among the ten competing for the crown.
Each of the ladies will have her likeness carved in a 90 pound block of butter during the run of the Minnesota State Fair, which runs August 21st through Labor Day.
