(KNSI) – St. Cloud State Men’s Basketball is celebrating the professional hardwood accomplishments of one of its alumni and former coaches, who is now behind the bench with the Iowa Wolves.

Mahmoud Abdelfattah played for the Huskies from 2008 to 2010. He came back the following season as a student assistant. He then worked his skills as a coach in Chicago at the high school and AAU levels. Abdelfattah came back to Hallenbeck Hall as a Huskies assistant coach from 2013 to 2017.

His ambitions have long since moved him past the collegiate ranks. Earlier this month, Abdelfattah was named the head coach for the Wolves’ G-League affiliate. Abdelfattah is a developmental league veteran at this point. From SCSU, he became an assistant coach for the Rio Grande Valley Vipers. He was promoted to head coach of the team in 2019 and won the championship that year, as well as inĀ 2022. Abdelfattah was also the G-League Coach of the Year in 2022.

From there, he went overseas, coaching the Sydney Kings in the relatively prestigious National Basketball League in Australia. Abdelfattah will have his work cut out for him in Des Moines. The Iowa Wolves were just 7-27 last season.
