(KNSI) – The St. Cloud Fire Department is welcoming two new vehicles at a ceremony on Wednesday.

The public is invited to Station 2 at 727 Anderson Avenue at 10:00 a.m. On display will be a new engine and ladder truck. It is a longstanding tradition within fire department ranks nationwide to hold a push-in ceremony for the newest vehicles in a fleet. Back in the days of horse-drawn fire trucks, the equipment would be pulled to the entrance of a station but had no motor of its own. To get the apparatus housed in its bay, it had to be pushed there manually by a group of firefighters giving it a good old-fashioned shove.

The public will have a chance to climb up into the cab of the trucks and learn how they work up close. Visitors will also be able to see behind the scenes at the station in a way that is typically off-limits during the average day. Cookies and refreshments will be available.

The push-in ceremony is free and no registration is required.
