(KNSI) – Saint Cloud State University is teaming up with the City of St. Cloud Park and Recreation Department again this fall to take a look at the night sky.
It’ll be a little different in that Stars and S’mores is scheduled for two nights, September 26th and 27th, at Wilson Park. Assistant Professor Rachel Humphrey says even with the expanded scope of the event, those interested should register now. She adds that it’s designed with the whole family in mind. “We’re going to have a lot of arts and crafts, and then, of course, the telescope viewing and the views of the current night sky out there. So, it’s very exciting. Every year it fills up very, very quickly.”
About 35 slots are available each night to ensure there is enough time for everyone to use the telescopes between 8:30 and 10:00 p.m. City staff provides graham crackers, chocolate, and marshmallows for everyone’s favorite campfire treat.
Humphrey has some tips to make the evenings as enjoyable as possible. “Dress appropriately for the weather, because it does get kind of cold, and this is a later start, because we want the night sky to be visible. So we’re starting at 8:30.”
Registration costs $5 since it is run through the city. A link to sign up for Stars and S’mores is here.
