(KNSI) – Officers with the Sauk Rapids Police Department will exchange their uniforms for aprons and say thank you to the community for its support over the last year during its third annual Cook Out with the Cops.

Assistant Police Chief Brent Burkowski told KNSI News the third time is the charm as they’re hoping they have the right amount of food this year. “We were going to be able to serve about three to four hundred people the first year. We ran out of food within the first hour. So, last year we ramped it up a little bit. We had enough for about 400, and we ended up having extra, which we donated to the homeless shelter when we were done.”

In the past, the event was held in August, but Burkowski stated they decided to push it back a little. “We usually do it before school starts, but with Labor Day being early, we thought it was a good opportunity, with the weather being nice yet for us, to get out and maybe make an easy meal for the kids going to school and mom and dad on the first day. On top of it, they get to meet a bunch of our officers.”

The department is inviting everyone to come out to Lions Park for dinner on Wednesday, September 3rd, between 5:00 and 7:00 p.m. On the menu is a pulled pork sandwich, chips and a drink thanks to a donation from 5-Star Plumbing and Heating and Nector of the Hogs BBQ.
