(KNSI) – First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Cosmos Township was completely destroyed by a fire early Thursday morning.
The Meeker County Sheriff’s Office says a driver on nearby Highway 4 first noticed the blaze. They saw a strange glow even though the highway is about a mile west of the church. The driver realized it was a fire as they turned onto 145th Street. The building was already fully engulfed by the time they got to the scene.
Fire departments from Cosmos, Grove City, Litchfield, and Hutchinson all rushed to the call, but the church could not be saved. The Minnesota Fire Marshall is currently on site and investigating the cause.
The fire was called in just after 1:30.
