(KNSI) — St. Cloud Area School District 742 has earned statewide recognition for implementing a behavioral support program in every school.
The Minnesota Department of Education recognized the district for the launch of the Positive Behavioral Interventions and Support model. A press release from the MDE says PBIS is a research-backed approach that helps schools prevent behavioral problems and teach students positive social skills. The program is designed to support positive behaviors while addressing students’ social, emotional, and behavioral needs.
While 93 schools across Minnesota earned this award, only five qualified for district-wide recognition by putting the program to work in at least 60% of their buildings. The release says St. Cloud went above and beyond, achieving 100% implementation. Schools received recognition for leadership in improving school climate, engaging the community, and increasing student achievement.
Several other local schools also earned individual recognition, including Pleasantview Elementary, Mississippi Heights and Rice Elementary School in the Sauk Rapids-Rice Public School District, as well as Foley Elementary and Foley High School.
MDE Commissioner and former District 742 Superintendent Willie Jett will honor the schools and districts at a recognition ceremony on Wednesday, August 14th.
