The St. Cloud Christian School broke ground Monday night as it begins over $12 million in renovations to the old Crafts Direct building in Waite Park.

Officials have already raised about 75% of the total and will need to complete the effort within a year. Head of School Mackenzie Hansen says the fundraising is a true team effort, with even students buying in. “I’m going to give a call to action to the community and launch our student campaign, which will officially begin here in the fall.”

An anonymous donor has agreed to match up to $500,000 of what the students bring in. Hansen says she can already tell there is excitement among the kids surrounding the future of the school at its new location.

Hansen spoke with KNSI News before the event and was looking forward to one part of the ceremony, in particular. Once again, it involves the students. “They are going to have some time to go into the school, and in this one area that’s all mapped out, they can write Bible verses or messages in the cement…leave their little legacy in the building.”

The St. Cloud Christian School currently operates out of a building near Spalt Park in the northeast part of the city.
