(KNSI) – The Morrison County Sheriff’s Office says a Hillman man is dead after an accident Thursday while cutting down a tree.

Authorities were called to a home in Pulaski Township after Daniel Dickman fell 37 feet to the ground. Dickman was taking down a tall tree in sections when one swung unexpectedly into the remaining tree trunk from which he was positioned on. The trunk splintered and broke. Dickman crashed over three stories, and then part of the tree landed on top of him.

First responders were unable to keep him alive at the scene. Sheriff Shawn Larsen says regretfully, “Our hearts go out to Mr. Dickman’s family, friends and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time. The Morrison County Sheriff’s Office extends its deepest condolences and support to all who are grieving this sudden and devastating loss. We also want to recognize and sincerely thank all the emergency personnel who responded to this incident, as they worked with compassion and professionalism under difficult circumstances.”

The accident happened at roughly 1:00 p.m.
