(KNSI) – What began as a modest chicken operation in 1979 near Clear Lake has evolved into a thriving 1,700-acre row crop enterprise for the Golly family of central Minnesota, earning them the recognition of Sherburne County’s Farm Family of the Year.

John and Lynette Golly started their farming venture 45 years ago with the popular yard birds, until they transitioned to cattle and crops. Today, their son Kiel manages the operation, focusing exclusively on seed corn, soybeans, and rye across 1,700 acres.

The farm employs a mix of no-till practices, cover crops, and selective conventional tillage to maintain soil health. This commitment to sustainable farming recently earned certification in Minnesota.

While Kiel handles daily operations, John and Lynette remain active partners. Kiel’s wife, Malorie, and their three children, Brielle, Lincoln, and Brooks, help wherever needed, keeping the operation a true family enterprise.
