(KNSI) – For 75 years, the Rahm family has been farming the same land near Foley, and that has earned them the 2025 Benton County Farm Family of the Year honors from the University of Minnesota Extension Office.
What started as Mary and Lawrence Rahm’s small operation has grown into a thriving dairy farm now supporting its fourth generation. Mary and Lawrence raised 14 children while building their farming operation. In 1969, their son John joined full-time, married Kathy the following year, and together they took over the farm in 1972.
By 1978, they built a free stall barn and milking parlor, doubling their herd from 60 to 120 cows. All seven of their children helped on the farm growing up, with Brian eventually joining as a partner in 1997 and taking over dairy operations in 2010.
Today, the Rahm farm milks cows and raises approximately 280 steers while managing 600 acres of crops. They’ve embraced sustainable practices by integrating cover crops and maintaining chickens, horses, and barn cats alongside their main operations.
