(KNSI) – September starts with an unapologetic blast of 80’s pop music at the Paramount Center for the Arts.
There will be no wands but plenty of escapism when Mixtape Magic comes to the theatre on Saturday, the 6th. Float back through the decades with the sounds of A Flock Of Seagulls, Naked Eyes, and Tommy Tutone. An outdoor tent party kicks off at 5:30 p.m. and the show gets underway at 7:30.
The three groups had hits that helped define the 80s, lighting up the radio with the likes of “I Ran (So Far Away) or “Always Something There to Remind Me.” Tommy Tutone forever changed White Pages listings nationwide with his song, “867-5309/Jenny.”
The outdoor party will be more than just food and drinks. It’s a perfect chance to socialize with neighbors and strangers alike. There will also be performances by the Twin Cities Skaters.
Then, from the 80’s the Paramount dips back even further with a titan of 1950s crooner style. Mick Sterling and The Amore Orchestra roll into town on September 9th to deliver the best of Dean Martin. When Sterling goes into classics like Everybody Loves Somebody and Mambo Italiano, the audience will feel like they got kicked in the head.
On the 13th, the Paramount stage turns into the jungle. Go on safari with Grant Kemmerer as he brings the Wide World of Animals to St. Cloud. He’ll have 16 different critters with him, from dictator scorpions to a cobra and an alligator. Exotic, beautiful, dangerous, and perfect representatives of this planet’s natural wonders.
The month wraps up with two more concerts. Former American Idol Ruben Studdard will belt out his larger-than-life brand of gospel and soul on September 19th. The Masterpiece Tour will feature songs from throughout Studdard’s now 20-year career.
The final event is a tribute to a pop group that certainly knew how to tap into soul, with a little funky twist. There is something appropriate about hearing the songs of Earth, Wind, and Fire in September. Carrying the group’s torch is Urban Classic. Featuring a four-piece horn section, several members have ties to the Prince Music Machine and call the Twin Cities home.
Tickets for the shows are available here.
