(KNSI) – The Minnesota National Guard will have a new chaplain following a historic ceremony on Friday at Camp Ripley.
A passing of the stole is scheduled at the base just outside Little Falls. It will mark a changing of the guard at the venerable position from retired Army Chaplain Buddy Winn, who has amassed 37 years of military service, to Lieutenant Colonel Timothy Usset.
Usset will provide guidance to more than 13,000 Minnesota National Guard soldiers, airmen, and civilian employees. His office is made up of individuals across a range of religions and denominations to offer spiritual services, counseling, and advice. The chaplain office also plays a big role in keeping up morale.
Outside of the Guard, Usset works as a researcher at the VA and the University of Minnesota. He also serves as director of the board of education with the Orono school district.
Usset is looking forward to the passing of the stole. He says, “This is more than a ceremony- it’s a renewal of our commitment to serve every Soldier and Airman with compassion, faith, and unwavering support.”
