(KNSI) — The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood warning for western Benton and northeastern Stearns Counties.

Recent heavy rainfall, coupled with storms that are pushing through this morning, has left spots with three to four inches of rain, with an additional one to two inches expected. Some locations that will experience flash flooding include Sartell, Sauk Rapids, Collegeville, Albany, Avon, Holdingford, Rice, Farming, St Wendel, Opole, St. Stephen and St. Martin.

Small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets, underpasses and other low lying or poor drainage areas will see faster currents and rising water levels.

Drivers who encounter flooded roads should turn around and find another way. It takes as little as six inches of water to float a passenger vehicle.

Local emergency managers are asking the public when it is safe to do so, to please report observed flooding to them or law enforcement so they can pass the information to the National Weather Service when you can do so safely.

The warning is in effect until 1:15 p.m.
