(KNSI) – State government is still behind on processing driver’s licenses due to a flood of Real ID requests.
The Stearns County License Center says residents are waiting as long as 17 weeks, or about four months, after sending in applications to the Minnesota Department of Public Safety Driver and Vehicle Services. Real ID is strongly encouraged for domestic air travel, but there are other documents that can work in its place.
Stearns County notes U.S. passports are being sorted through at a brisk pace. If someone chooses expedited processing, they’re coming back in just two to three weeks. For regular processing, it is between four and six weeks.
Passports are available through the Stearns County Treasurer’s Office, located on the second floor of the service center, or at the administration office in downtown St. Cloud.
