(KNSI) — The Morrison County Sheriff’s Office says two people found dead in a house in Pierz following a welfare check on Friday morning died by murder suicide.

Authorities say they were called to the house on the 600 block of River Valley Road around 10:30 and located the bodies of a man and a woman who were both pronounced dead at the scene. They were taken to the Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office and have been identified as 32-year-old Crystal Marschel, who is from Pierz, and her boyfriend, John Gans, a 34-year-old from Rice. A .40 caliber handgun was lying next to Gans.

The Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office says Marschel died from a gunshot wound to the head. Gans’s death is believed to be due to a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

A press release from the sheriff’s office says there is no threat to the public, and that this is an isolated incident.
