(KNSI) — A lane shift in the I-94 gap project could throw a wrench into travel overnight on Thursday in Wright County.

The Minnesota Department of Transportation plans to redirect all westbound traffic onto the east lanes. Expect delays during the transition.

Officials say daytime traffic won’t really notice a difference as it will remain two lanes in each direction. The layout to enter and exit the work zone will be the big change.

The new orientation will be in place until the fall, when crews plan to reopen all lanes while construction takes a break before the snow flies. In 2026, eastbound lanes will be expanded, and traffic will be moved onto I-94 west.

The gap project affects Monticello to Albertville. It is part of a gradual widening of I-94 throughout central and western Minnesota.
