(KNSI) — The City of St. Cloud is looking for volunteers to tackle stormwater pollution that’s affecting local waterways.

When rainwater runs off roadways, it carries trash and pollutants into stormwater ponds before eventually flowing into the Mississippi River, Lake George, and the Sauk River.

The Adopt-a-Drain program allows volunteers to select storm drains near their home or business. Once adopted, they commit to keeping their chosen drains clear of trash and debris that could block water flow or contaminate downstream waterways. The city provides all necessary supplies.

The Adopt-a-Pond program allows volunteer groups to take responsibility for maintaining stormwater ponds, roadways, or rain gardens. Participating groups will receive recognition signs acknowledging their community commitment, and the city will provide all necessary supplies.

City officials say these small, local actions can have a big impact on regional water quality.
