(KNSI) — Eight kayakers had to be rescued from the Sauk River Saturday afternoon after running into some trouble with trees in the water.
The Stearns County Sheriff’s Office says they got the call about 12:45 p.m. about the group, who had become stranded near County Road 139 in Rockville. They had left Eagle Park and ended up running into several areas of low hanging trees in the water. They made it to a nearby shoreline and were rescued by the Rockville Fire Department, the sheriff’s office Water Patrol, the Department of Natural Resources and Mayo Ambulance. No one was hurt, but the kayaks were two orange and yellow Pelican kayaks were lost downstream. Anyone who finds them is asked to contact the sheriff’s office so they can be returned.
Officials are issuing a warning saying the river is running high and the currents are fast right now, and recreating on any section of it should be approached with extreme caution due to the low trees on the water and under the surface.
