(KNSI) – A Minnesota author and early education specialist will share her deeply personal children’s book during a special story time session in St. Cloud this weekend.
Thuba Nguyen will read from her book “My Daddy Tells Me…” on Saturday, July 12th, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Cloud Books Revisited, located at 607 West St. Germain Street. The free community event will feature a raffle of ten donated books, giving families a chance to take home the meaningful story. As an early education specialist, she understands firsthand the critical impact of positive reinforcement on child development. “The inspiration behind this book was a representation of a father-daughter bond, hearing a father give positive affirmations to his daughter during a formative time in her life,” Nguyen told KNSI News.
The semi-biographical picture book follows a Vietnamese family’s journey as they immigrate to the United States, capturing both the challenges of adaptation and the power of parental support. Through carefully crafted words and illustrations, readers witness how a father’s encouraging words help his young daughter build confidence during this major life transition.
For Nguyen, the book serves a dual purpose as both children’s story and personal healing. “I lacked a lot of that positive affirmation from my father,” she explained. “Now being an early education specialist, seeing how important it is for the overall child’s development, getting reinforcing messages from loved ones and adults in their lives.”
The event is free and open to the public, though families are encouraged to arrive early due to limited seating and the popularity of the book raffle. Street parking is available along West St. Germain Street, with additional parking in nearby municipal lots.
“My Daddy Tells Me…” is available for purchase at St. Cloud Books Revisited and through online retailers.
