(KNSI) – A surprisingly large percentage of Minnesota is still dealing with dry weather, even as rivers in the southern part of the state flood.

The U.S. Drought Monitor’s update for this week even shows severe drought back in play for Lake of the Woods and Roseau Counties. A moderate drought persists near the headwaters of the Mississippi. Almost all of the northern third of Minnesota is still abnormally dry, except for the point of the arrowhead.

It felt like a constant deluge over the past few weeks for everyone, but the percentage of the state dealing with moderate and severe droughts ticked up during that time period, even as abnormally dry conditions decreased. All of central Minnesota is dealing with normal soil moisture, however. No wake restrictions have even popped up on area lakes.

The agency releases its weekly updates each Thursday. They cover through Tuesday morning at 8:00 a.m.
