(KNSI) – St. Joseph’s Joetown Rocks Parish Festival hits all the right notes on and off the stage tonight.
The celebration begins on Thursday, July 3rd at 5:00 p.m. with bingo, games and food. Bands will play at 6:15 with MojoMouth, Honey Suckle, and the Killer Vees & Friends (featuring Maggie O’Donnell, Michael Shynes, Esera Tuaolo, and Clayton Ryan). The evening ends with fireworks at 10:15 p.m. The holiday festivities continue Friday morning with a parade starting at 10:00 in downtown St. Joe, followed by more bingo, games and refreshments.
The event has grown into something much larger than the founders ever expected. Joetown Rocks organizer Jeff Vee told KNSI the event started in 2006 with his dad, rock and roll legend Bobby Vee. “The whole event’s taken on a life of its own. It’s a parish festival, sort of on steroids, right? We get a lot of people, 15,000 plus people every year, and we never thought it would last this long.”
Jeff Vee believes part of the secret sauce to their success is the community itself. “St. Joe is such a great community for support, and, you know, everything we do out there, people rally, and come together. It’s a great small-town America at its best.”
