(KNSI) – Officials in charge of the 79th annual St. Cloud Fourth of July fireworks are keeping an eye on the sky for rain but moving full speed ahead.
Fireworks Chair Christina Buttenhoff told KNSI they have no intention of canceling the show. “Bring a rain jacket. Bring a poncho if you need to, but fireworks will be shot off and we’re going to celebrate America’s birthday.”
Last year, the fireworks had to deal with forecasted rain and moved the show up an hour. “We had some battles last year and lots of folks saying it needs to be canceled, and we held our ground and we did it. And we did it pretty well, with what we were dealt. So, I’m very positive here with the weather. I think we’re going to have a good day. You know, we’ll deal with any weather that comes our way.”
According to the National Weather Service, the Fourth of July’s forecast calls for a 40% chance of showers and thunderstorms after 1:00 p.m. Otherwise, mostly sunny, with a high near 89. Friday night, the odds jump to an 80% chance of showers and possibly a thunderstorm. The forecast predicts total rainfall between a quarter of an inch and a half inch.
Officials will again keep their fingers crossed for good weather during showtime, which is expected around 10:00 p.m.
