(KNSI) — A new challenger has entered the race for Minnesota’s Sixth Congressional District, as Doug Chapin officially announced his candidacy for the U.S. House of Representatives seat currently held by Republican Tom Emmer.
Chapin, who has been traveling throughout the district to visit communities from St. Cloud to Chanhassen and Buffalo to Blaine, said voters are seeking representation that serves all constituents, rather than “just the privileged few.”
“Working together we have a chance to stand together and bring Tom Emmer home for a long overdue and well-deserved retirement,” Chapin said in his announcement. Drawing inspiration from the late Senator Paul Wellstone’s philosophy that “we all do better when we all do better,” he emphasized the importance of bringing a collaborative approach to Washington if elected.
Chapin acknowledged the financial challenges ahead, noting that incumbent Emmer already maintains a substantial campaign fund. However, they expressed confidence in their grassroots organizing strategy. “I don’t have any illusion that I’ll outspend him, but I know we’ll out-organize and out-work him,” while launching a fundraising appeal to supporters.
Minnesota’s Sixth District encompasses parts of central Minnesota, including communities in Anoka, Sherburne, Benton, Stearns, and Wright counties.
Chapin promised to share more details about their platform and campaign strategy in the coming weeks, expressing gratitude for the early support received across the district.
Emmer, who has represented the district since 2015, has not yet announced his reelection plans for the upcoming cycle.
