(KNSI) – The Rox already have their name written in permanent marker for this year’s Northwoods League playoffs bracket.
The team is 24-8 following after rallying Sunday in Rochester. That’s the best mark in the league, and it was more than enough to secure a first-half championship in the Great Plains West division. The Rox were hot from the jump and they have rode that momentum to a better than .700 winning percentage in the first five weeks of the season.
The Northwoods League, like many minor leagues in professional baseball, takes the first half winner and the second half winner as automatic entrants into the postseason. The Rox have now qualified for the postseason in seven consecutive seasons.
The club will have a shot to bring home its first league championship since 2017 in August. Austin Haley has been the best batter on the team, knocking in 26 runs while hitting over .300. Eden Valley-Watkins alum Nolan Geislinger is batting .313 with 13 RBIs at the dish.
The staff is anchored by a three-headed monster in Jake Burcham, Riane Ritter and JP Robertson. They’ve combined to give up just 19 earned runs in 82.2 innings on the bump.
