(KNSI) – The man accused of stabbing his roommate has been charged with second degree assault.
Police responded to an apartment on the 2000 block of 15th Street North in St. Cloud around 11:30 Sunday morning. When they arrived, they found the 44-year-old victim sitting in a bedroom chair covered in blood. The criminal complaint said initially, he was uncooperative and didn’t give investigators any suspect information, but on the way to the hospital, he told police it was his roommate. He said he was sleeping and woke up to find 28-year-old Markus Lewis stabbing him. At one point, Lewis told him to put his head back so he could finish him off. Court papers say he was stabbed twice in his right arm, once in his left shoulder area, once in his left armpit, twice in the torso, and had a stab or scrape wound in the side of his head.
When questioned by police, Lewis said he was in the living room and heard his roommate calling for help, and found him already stabbed and bleeding. The only other person home at the time was the victim’s baby. He later confessed to the stabbing, but said he didn’t want to kill the victim, but did want to cause him pain. A knife was also found at the scene.
