(KNSI) – Stearns County is reminding residents in District 4 that they can begin voting absentee for the board of commissioners special election primary next week.

Auditor-Treasurer Randy Schreifels announced the election period will open on June 27th with the final votes cast on August 12th. District 4 covers parts of Waite Park and St. Cloud. Absentee in-person voting will be available at the Stearns County Service Center Election Office on County Road 138 in Waite Park.

The more traditional absentee mail option is also acceptable. An application can be found online here. Return it to the Auditor-Treasurer office in an envelope, in person, or by fax at 320-656-3916, and an absentee ballot will be sent out through the post office.

The special election is for a replacement to Leigh Lenzmeier, who retired in late April. It features six candidates, with the roster cut to two following the August primary. The finalists then square off in November to become Lenzmeier’s replacement.

Amin Ali, Shawn Blackburn, Darrell Breuestle, Mike Conway, Frank B. Imholte, and Bob Johnson are on the ballot.
