(KNSI) – An equipment failure is getting blamed for a power outage that left over 4,300 customers in the dark for nearly three hours on Tuesday in St. Cloud and Sauk Rapids.
The power went out around 4:15 p.m. when poles broke along Highway 23 on St. Cloud’s east side, causing downed lines. Photos from the scene show at least one pole snapped in half. Xcel Energy spokesperson Kevin Coss declined to specify what caused the poles to fail.
The outage affected downtown St. Cloud, the Hester Park neighborhood, parts of Sauk Rapids, and St. Cloud State University’s campus. Most customers had power restored by Tuesday night, though some remained without electricity until Wednesday morning.
